She was guilty of heresy because the English accused her of being a witch. She decided to obey the "visions" and "voices" from the saints, instead of obeying the church.
They told her to drive out the English from France and bring to Dauphin the Reims for his coronation.The voices told Joan of Arc to find the Dauphin and crown him as the King of France, and then lead his armies against the British, in order to liberate France.
Joan of Arc sacrificed her life to save her country, as well as others. She also gave up her childhood (13+) to prepare for the journey and adventure the voices had given her.
The Dauphin was at a loss as to how he should proceed in the war against the British. Nothing he had done was successful. He had nothing to lose by giving Joan a leadership role so agreed to her request. He also felt that if what Joan was telling the truth about the voices she heard from God, he might be going against the Holy Spirit if he refused.
