Because he is the god of mummification. When you die the ancient Egyptians believed that when you die you go to the afterlife.when you travel to the afterlife Anubis is there waiting for you. they take your heart out and weigh it on a scale your heart on one side a feather on the other. if your heart is heavier than a feather your soul gets eaten by a monster if it is lighter you enter through a gate to the afterlife.
