Well the president at the beginning of the war was Franklin Roosevelt. He died a few months into his fourth term as president and was replaced by Harry Truman. If you're looking for military leaders then Dwight Eisenhower, Douglas MacArthur, George Marshall, and Omar Bradley were all five star generals for the army. In the navy Chester Nimitz and a few others were all five star admirals.
