Judas Iscariot. He was one of the 12 disciples. One belief is that he was expecting Jesus to free Israel from the Romans, but when this didn't happen he turned on Jesus and betrayed Him to the Jewish leaders.

Another possibility is that he was greedy for money. He got 30 pieces of silver for betraying Jesus. Jesus knew he was stealing money from the finances they used as a group. He was in charge of the money, like the treasurer.

A common belief is that Jesus would have forgiven him if he had come to Him after betraying Him. Some people would probably consider this debatable.

One reason so many people turned against Jesus is that they wanted Israel to be free from the Romans and they were expecting their Messiah to do this rather than being a spiritual king. Another reason was jealousy on the part of the Jewish leaders, and that Jesus saw the true nature of their hearts rather than what they wanted to project to their constituents.
