He allegedly visited her and expressed the urgent need for a flag. Betsy accepted the job and manufactured the flag, somewhat altering the committeeâ??s original design by changing the stars from six-point two five-point. This story did not come about until 34 years after her death when her last living grandson made this claim via letter to the Pennsylvania Historical Society.
