The following is a list of people, who were killed by Henry VIII, and later Canonized as Saints by the Catholic Church.
Thomas More: Lord Chancellor, Statesman, Author, Henry VIII's best friend (at one point)- Beheaded on July 6, 1535/Canonized in 1935 by Pope Pius XI
John Fisher: Cardinal, Bishop, former Chaplin and confessor to Lady Margaret Beaufort, Countess of Richmond and Derby, and grandmother of Henry VIII. Under Fisher's guidance, Lady Margaret founded St. John's and Christ's Colleges at Cambridge. Beheaded on June 22, 1535/Canonized in 1935 by Pope Pius XI
There are also fifty four (54) English Martyrs who were beatified by Pope Leo XIII, in 1886 but have not been canonized, (they are "Blessed" but not Saints.) who were also executed under Henry VIII, by means of drawing, quartering, and hanging. This type of execution was horrific compared to being beheaded.
The Blessed Sir Thomas More (1478 - 1535), the ill-fated Lord Chancellor of Henry VIII (1491 - 1547) was basically sentenced to death for refusing to agree to the divorce of the king from Queen Catherine of Aragon, and the king's subsequent marriage to Anne Boleyn. Because he refused to agree to the parliamentary Act Of Succession, he was doomed, and found guilty of treason. Although it was the false witness of Sir Richard Rich, Solicitor General, that sealed his fate.
Sir Thomas was executed on the 6 July 1535 by beheading, on Tower Hill, the Tower of London.
