The first US patent with the title "lawn sprinkler" was issued to J. Lessler of Buffalo, New York in 1871 (#121949). Early examples of water-propelled, rotating lawn sprinklers were patented by J. Oswald in 1890 (#425340) and J. S. Woolsey in 1891 (#457099) among a gazillion others.

The Sumerians invented the irrigation systems because they needed a system that could control the water.
Nasal irrigation was noted to be effective in clearing the nasal passges prior to meditation hundreds of years ago. The benefits were really apprecaited when a salty solution was added. Western medicine first introdcued nasal irrigation in the late 1800's while modern medical literature mentions irrigation before and after surgery for many decades. The recent burst of awareness in the past 5-10 years is multifactorial (bacteriasl resistence to antibiotics, consumers seeking natural alternatives and preventative methods, recent scientifc literature supporting the notion that washing makes sense, information via interent resulting in informed healthcare consumers, modern systems that make nasal washing easy, convenient and it feels so good). The Sumarians, the ancient people of the present-day Iraq and Syria, were the first to develop irrigation systems. Many of their canals and dikes remain intact today. The Sumarians were also the first civilization to have city states, largely as a result of their ability to cultivate more crops through irrigation.
Most oldest civilization is Indus Valley Civilization, so the people of Indus Valley Civilization

Elijah McCoy (1843-1929), an African-Canadian inventor.
Elijah McCoy is a famous African American inventor. His first major invention was a lubrication for oiling the engines of locomotives and steamboats which he patented in July of 1872. He has obtained about 57 patents, all relating to lubricants, but also invented the folding ironing board and the lawn sprinkler. He is also associated with the saying, "the real McCoy", meaning, "the real thing", because railroad workers would inquire if their locomotive was fitted with "the real McCoy" rather than some inferior copy.
Elijah McCoy is famous because he made a device that allowed machines to be lubricated while they were still in operation.
