Elizabeth I of England never married. The Tudor line ended with her. She was born September 1, 1533 and died without an heir on March 24, 1603. She was sometimes called The Virgin Queen, Gloriana, or Good Queen Bess. She was the fifth and final Tudor monarch.

There are many possible reasons why she never married, starting with the fact that her father, Henry VIII, had her mother Anne Boleyn beheaded for treason, a charge which was later proved unfounded, but nevertheless would have had a profound influence on the young princess who was herself arrested and threatened with execution for years. She also may not have wanted to share power. Being a woman, she would have lost her title as Queen Regnant and become Queen Consort to anyone she married. She was a profound feminist at a time when feminism was simply unheard of. When in 1588 Spain sent a naval armada to (unsuccessfully) invade England, Elizabeth made a famous speech to her troops while clad in the steel breastplate of a warrior. She said, "I know I have the body but of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a King!"

Wikipedia has a splendid article on her. Click the related link below.
