There are but a few players in the NFL who have played in the CFL, the most notable of which are Jeff Garcia who actually started his career in Canada before getting his chance with the 49ers and Ricky Williams who played for Toronto when he was suspended from the Dolphins in '06 I believe. There were plenty of players who were in both leagues pre 1970 but since the games have became more and more different and call for different skill sets and every year sees less players making the switch. Notable players to get their big break in Canada before starring in the NFL are Doug Flutie (Flutie did play in the NFL before the CFL but without much success), Warren Moon, Joe Theisman, Rocket Ismail, Mervyn Fernandez and Harold Hasselbach (a DE who is the last player to win both a Grey Cup and a Super Bowl Championship). There have also been a handful of NFL stars who played in Canada after being out of the NFL including Andre Rison and Mark Gastineau.
Current Washington Redskins fullback Mike Sellers played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2002 and 2003 and the Edmonton Eskimos from 1995-1997.
The CFL focuses more on speed and quickness rather than brute strength as in the NFL. Many CFL players are talented (they have excellent football skills) but are considered too small and undersized to play in the NFL. Many players who were originally thought to be too unskilled to play in the NFL have proved their skills in the CFL and have had successful NFL careers thereafter. Extremely speedy players enjoy the much less cramped field in the Canadian game, which favours their style of play.
There is little data available regarding the average size of a CFL player. There is, however, less discrepancy in size in the Canadian Football League than in the NFL of the United States. Canadian football tends to focus more on speed and basic athleticism than the NFL, which encourages specialized players.
Steve Young was the first overall pick, selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in the 1984 NFL Supplemental Draft. The Supplemental Draft was a draft of USFL and CFL players by NFL teams that was designed to keep teams from having bidding wars for the players which would have driven the salaries of all players up.

NFL is four downs and cfl is three therefore having more passing. Also the cfl field is longer(120 yards and 20 yard endzones) compared to NFL which is(100 yards and 10 yard endzones). Finally the cfl ball is larger.

The teams that share a name between the NFL and CFL are the Detroit Lions of the NFL and the British Columbian Lions of the CFL.

Generally, yes. However, there are rules regarding players being under contract to only one team. If a CFL player has an opportunity to play in the NFL, he first gets released from his CFL duties. Then, he signs an NFL contract. Dominique Dorsey recently missed the first half of the 2009 CFL season while he was signed with the Washington Redskins. They released him just before the season opener and he returned to his CFL team, the Toronto Argonauts.
As of 2009, no players with that name have ever played in the NFL.
if you are playing NFL, then most likely yes. CFL maybe not. most NFL players make around 1million per season. whereas CFL player typically make around 50-100 thousand per season.
