Such as in 1965, when Charles Perkins led 30 university students on the first 'Freedom Ride,' designed to protest and bring attention to the racial discriminations of Aborigines, that was rife in rural communities.

But in the end, many others followed and the State authorities issued rules prohibiting segregated transportation facilities
