One main goal of the Third Reich was to gain Lebensraum, or living space, for the German people. This was primarily gained through the occupation of the Rhineland, the Anschluss of Austria, the annexation of the Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia, and the occupation of western Poland. After the official beginning of World War II, the Third Reich also took Aslace-Lorraine, and parts of Italy and Yugoslavia. It is thought that Hitler intended to extend the Third Reich all the way to the Ural Mountains and the River Ural.
