Well, if you believe MASH history.... Charles Winchester III has to pay his entire monthly salary back to Rizzo - $200 to solve an expensive debt situation. That would make his annual pay about $2400 per year Now, the national US Wage index puts the average salary at about $2900 per year in 1952 but if you consider that they were 'working in service of their country' and didn't have any other expenses, that would seem about correct.

I'm serious a MAS*H fan, and you're right, the Charles Rizzo 100% interest situation, Charles paid his entire salary to Rizzo--$200. However, Hawkeye mentions his salary exactly twice during the entire run of the series, and the amounts are different, but close. I can remember one of the figures approximately: $443. It's very close to that number I'm sure. The other time he mentions it, it's close to that.

This number seems high. The equivalent today is almost $4900. I wouldn't think they would earn that much from the Army, doctors or not. Side note: Radar won $800 in a Poker game. That would be a fortune today, over $8800 bucks.
