I inherited the same gun. My father bought the gun new in 1971. It was called the ultimate goose gun. It was also used heavily a a big game gun. My dad used it faithfully to hunt deer in eastern NC. I used it to kill my first deer. with the 3" mag capability and full choke it was a perfect big game shot gun as well as a goose gun. You can find the same model at auction for $150 to $250. The later if it is still in really good shape.

I don't believe Benjamin ever made a model 170, but they did make a model 177. Is this the BB gun you are asking about?
A trench gun was a shotgun used in WW1 by allied forces, a Winchester Model 1897 to be specific. It was so effective in its' military use Germany attempted to have it banned from warfare for causing unnecessary suffering.

Depends on the make of gun. Some will not HAVE a model number, or it will not be marked on the gun. The .357 Magnum has been around since 1935. Even S&W did not use model numbers before WW 2, and Colt used names, not numbers.
