As far as MLB is concerned, the longest losing streak in 23 games held by the 1889 Pittsburgh Alleghenys (soon to be Pirates) and the 1961 Philadelphia Phillies.
21 games by the 1988 Baltimore Orioles.
The Orioles played their first game of the 1988 season on April 4 and won their first game on April 29.
The UPS guy asked me this and seems to think my beloved Cardinals is the team with only 2 consecutive losing seasons in the last 30 or 40 years but hopefully someone can confirm and explain. When you google it only seems to correlate losing with most. ---- The Cardinals had consecutive losing seasons in 1994 (53-61) and 1995 (62-81). Prior to that their last consecutive losing seasons came in 1958 and 1959. Since the 1960 season, the Cardinals are the only MLB team to have one set of consecutive losing seasons. The Los Angeles Dodgers have had two sets of consecutive losing seasons since 1960 (1967-1968 and 1986-1987).

The Baltimore Orioles?
From 1901-2012, the Detroit Tigers have had 44 losing seasons.
Pittsburgh pirates 19 seasons
Pittsburgh pirates at 18 straight and counting
The Phillies lost 23 games in a row in 1961.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers still hold the longest losing streak record in the NFL. They went 0-26 in 1976 and 1977, there first two seasons in the league. The did manage 2 wins at the end of the 1977 season.
Make that 18 seasons (1992 - 2010) and counting.

Well this depends on several things, professional baseball refers to both the major and minor leagues. The minor leagues are those divided into AAA AA, etc, and most are associated with major league teams. Like the Memphis Red Birds are a AAA team and when they go to the Majors they move up to the St. Louis Cardinals. So my first question is: are you referring to the major or minor leagues? and if minor? Which division? Or all of professional baseball as a whole? Secondly: Are you referring to an individual players losing streak? or an entire teams losing streak? Thirdly: Consecutive games in a season? Or consecutive seasons lost - world series lost that is?
Yes, a major league baseball team has been forced to forfeit a game when it is losing badly. There have also been teams that have been forced to forfeit due to a crowd that was too rowdy.
