Romanticism is not inherently against the Industrial Revolution, but it does critique its effects on society and nature. Romantic artists and writers often emphasized emotion, individualism, and a connection to nature, reacting against the mechanization and dehumanization that accompanied industrialization. They sought to highlight the beauty of the natural world and the importance of human experience, often portraying industrial society as corrupting and alienating. Thus, while not opposing industrialization itself, Romanticism serves as a response to its adverse impacts.
