The Boston Massacre occurred in March of 1770. The Treaty of Paris, which officially and legally ended Britain's rule over the colonies, was signed in 1783. So, the United States became independent from England 13 years after the Boston Massacre. and after George Washington put his john Handcock on the declaration of independence.
