He carried a double barrelled flintlock Horse Pistol. It is believed the pistol Turpin had were manufactured by Baker, a gunsmith in Whitechaple, London, who later went on to produce the famous Baker rifle, the standard weapon of the British army. They were usually issued in pairs with a set of connected holsters designed to be draped over the pommel of a saddle. Horse pistols were heavy and were so long they could not comfortably be carried at the hip.
