I think it is basically saying that you shouldn't be afraid to walk away from your life because if you leave then you can move on to so many greater things and forget your past. You can forget about the bad things you have been through and start again away from people you know even if it means losing someone you love (Seymour) because that's what's going to be best for you, personally in the long run. It's about conquering your fear of the unknown. That's only my personal opinion though; Clowes gave it an open ending specifically for this reason: to make you think what it means! Ghost World is easily the best film I've ever seen.
