Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Thailand use 008 (among other prefixes) as the international access prefix (or exit code) to be dialed before the telephone country code for international calls. In each case, using the 008 prefix as opposed to some other 00x prefix selects a particular telephone company to carry the call.

Telephone country code +888 (dialed from many places as 00 888) is used for large-scale international disaster relief activities, coordinated by the United Nations OCHA. Note that the numbers are assigned on a temporary basis and may be reused for a future relief effort.

(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but North America (USA, Canada, etc.) uses 011, Japan uses 010, Australia uses 0011, and many other countries use different prefixes.)
