He was very peaceful but he advocated a separation between whites and blacks. He urged blacks to start their own organizations and reject regular white based culture. He was also a freedom rider. Remember, the SNCC originally sought to desegregate and make blacks and whites equal and create an equal society. However, after all that stuff about Black Power riling everyone up, Carmichael, leader of SNCC, thought that African Americans should control the struggle themselves. Now he made the SNCC focus more on doing things for black people, to identify themselves as black people, instead of trying to make blacks and white equal and accepting assimilation. I guess that's how he changed civil rights organization. I suppose he was pretty influential so he was able to get a lot of people into getting Black Power pride.
