∙ 14y agoThe common businesses in gold rush towns were general merchants who sold everything from prospecting tools, to Cooking Equipment, and general foodstuffs. There would also have been bakers, butchers, drapers, blacksmiths and hardware suppliers.

With no capital to increase production facilitites, and many businesses failed, there were far fewer jobs available.
Businesses closed during the Great Depression because they weren't realizing the revenue the needed to remain operational. During this time people weren't working so they couldn't spend money they didn't have.
It is estimated that around 20,000 Chinese immigrants arrived in California between 1849 and 1852. This was in response to the California Gold Rush, as many Chinese immigrants sought opportunities in mining and other industries in California during this period.
