In The English Civil war the majority of soldiers wore very light armour. This light armour was great when protecting them from swords but did little effect against muskets. Pikemen wore steel helmets with back and breast plates. Cavalry wore extra leg protection sometimes even thigh protection they did this by wearing thick leather boots. Sir Thomas Haselrig's survived 3 point blank pistols shots and 7 hits form the sword in the battle of Roundway down.
