They did have twists to their laws that we do not have, such as a person being exiled and losing his property, or the suspension of civil law during the term of a dictator. They also had laws pertaining to slaves and their treatment which we do not have.

Roman law remains fundemental to European law. That is a great contribution it made, however, more pointed to the question at hand, Roman laws was divided into three areas: A. Civil Law; B. Administrative; and C. Criminal law.
