Agriculture, Manufacturing, R&D and EDU, and Service are major industries of the U.S.
Agriculture obviously is what every country starts with and then they progress to manufacturing to keep production up to par with the ever growing population.
R&D and EDU is to keep the economy and industry on the edge or fringes of advanced sciences and procedures. Service is virtually useless. While the first three i mentioned is what i like to call the Prime industries while service is a minor industry.
All different services branch from different industries and it is primarily where the jobs come in at, but it does not necessarily bring money into the country. It only fluctuates money withing the borders. Though the Prime industries do bring money into the country from the outside quite frequently. The U.S.'s major problem, which is kinda obvious, is the fact that the majority of our economy is based off of the service industry. The three primes took the back seat mid way through the nineties and it has destroyed us. We have fallen behind in the race for technologies and that was where we should have been investing since square one.
