They also used foxholes, airplanes and the latest 'weapons of mass destruction' such as 'mustard gas' and machine guns instead of the hand-to-hand combat used in all of the previous wars.This is why it was named 'The War to end all Wars' and 'The Great War' afterwards, until, that is, WWII.
