Conditions in trench warfare were horrible. Soldiers were expected to keep themselves clean but with very little water. Rats were also a very big issue. A single rat couple could have just under 900 offspring. Soldiers were petrified by them, so they used these methods to try to the rat numbers down:

  • Shooting them with their rifles.

  • Stabbing them with their bayonets.

  • Clubbing them to death.

Lice were also a big issue for the soldiers. They would get literally everywhere. They also caused Tench Fever, a particularly painful disease witch common effects where severe pain followed by a high fever. Boredom was also greatly effected the soldiers. Many people thought that the two sides were always fighting, but infact, some soldiers complained of boredom.
