European Imperialism in China during the 19th Century hurt the Chinese economy and their governments. The people were exploited. Japan & the USA were also involved in using imperialism in China as well. Imperialism continued into the 20th century as well.

There were good kings and bad kings. It all depends on how they treated their subjects. If the only two options are was it positive or negative, the answer is... yes, it was both positive and negative. Positive in most cases. Now you have to study more to find out what the benefits were to the subjects of imperialism.
