the differences is that in the modern Olympics you get a medal and that the Olympics are televised and there are more sports while in the ancient Olympics when you win you would get a crown and the only sports that were there were discus,foot racing,gladiators and it was only held in Greece.
They are completely different. In the ancient Olympics only men competed and did so in the nude. Events that are common to the two are only running, boxing and (greco-roman) wresting. The Greeks also had a form of pentathlon which consisted of long jump, javelin throwing, discus throwing, running and Wrestling.

They didn't. The modern Olympics was restarted in the late 1800's and not directly linked to the ancient Olympics at all.

Most of the events from the Modern Olympics originally came from the Ancient Olympics but many more events have been added to the Modern Olympics...
