Sir William Berkeley was one of the Lord Proprietors of the Colony of Carolina and the colonial Governor of Virginia. He established friendly policies toward Native Americans, something that led to discomfort by some of the planters, which led to the revolt remembered as 'Bacon's rebellion'.
Lord John Berkeley was one of the Co-founders of what is now known as New Jersey. He was born in 1607, and died in 1678.
