The British economy is often referred to as a mixed economy due to the fact some industries such as the coal industry is run by the government. Currently the British economy is the third largest one behind Germany and France. Some prominent economic indicators show that in many sectors of its economy, the UK is recovering from the recession of 2008 -2009. Here are some interesting facts about the UK's economy:

* Gross Domestic Product (GDP ) is on the rise and has been since 2012;

* The Uk's industrial production hit a low in 2012 and is till below its production of 2010;

* From a high in 2011, the unemployment percentage has dropped based on the last quarter of 2013;

* The Consumer Price Index is on a path to normalcy from its high in 2011, based on figures of January, 2014;

* Major industries in the United Kingdom consist of an entire spectrum of products and services. Ship building, motor vehicles, electronics, petroleum, coal and communications devices are representative of its diverse economy;

* Exports include energy fuels, beverages and chemicals;

* Imports include machinery and manufactured goods;

* The debt of the UK ranks third in the world at approximately $9 trillion; and

* Major trading partners include the United States, Germany, Netherlands and China.
