Every god wanted to have a patron city.
Hera ( goddess of marriage, peacocks and wife of Zeus ) and Poseidon ( god of the seas and earthquakes ) fought over Argos and Hera won. Poseidon was mad and so he caused a flood in Argos. Hera complained and told Poseidon to take the water away. Poseidon was like - "Okay, I'll take the water away. I'll take all of it away" And so Argos became a desert.

Argos had terrible soil because there is a legend that says Poseidon cursed their rivers. They could not grow crops well because in the summer it was hot and dry, and in the winter it was cold and wet. The Argocians had a king.
