There can be ANY number of significant things about the Korean War. The most significant were: 1. First clash of jets in aerial combat (first jet war). 2. History's first LIMITED WAR (Fought without using all available weapons-e.g. nukes). 3. Communism was stopped; at the 38th parallel. 4. US Army's first use of the Patton series medium battle tank, the M46; a series which went on to serve until the last Patton, the M48 was replaced by the M60 Combat tank; the US Army's first MBT (Main Battle tank), which was ultimately replaced by today's M1 Abrams MBT. 5. Korea was the last war fought by the US Military's famed M1 Garand rifle of WW2. As well as the US's last war fought with the famous Tommy gun (Thompson .45 submachine gun); and BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle-30-06 caliber). 6. Korea was the FIRST war for Great Britain's famous CENTURION medium tank; which was deployed by British forces in Korea. The CENTURION would later fight it's last war for the crown, with the Australian Army in Vietnam; from then on the Centurion would only serve under foreign nations which purchased it. 7. Korea was the last war in which a vast majority of WW2 aircraft and warships would play an important role. Nearly all would be replaced by the 1960's. 8. Korea and WW1 are the only wars settled by an Armistice during the 20th century.
