Retired army general, Alexander Haig was the 59th Secretary of state and Ronald Reagan's first. He served from January 22, 1981 to July 5, 1982.
Confederate General George Edward Pickett graduated from West Point in 1846. He ranked 59th in a class of fifty nine. Pickett is most remembered for his role in the Battle of Gettysburg. He was unfairly criticized for his repeated assaults on fortified Union positions during that battle.
