Technically, Oswald was "innocent", in the sense that he never lived to be tried, and here in the US a person is considered innocent until proven guilty.

However, if you define "innocent" to mean "he didn't do it", then he absolutely was not innocent.

While many have attempted to whitewash Oswald, typically they do it by way of mistaken or even wrong information. Oswald's palmprint was lifted from his rifle while he was still alive. Conspiracy buffs see some significance to the fact that his palmprint was taken by the FBI after his death. The fact that there is no way to go from ink on a card, to body oil on a rifle, is not mentioned by buffs, as is the fact that the palmprint was lifted while Oswald was still alive.

Other incorrect information is also popular. At one point in time there was some belief that Oswald needed and had help, a fellow sniper on the Grassy Knoll. We now know that at the moment of the head shot, there was a concrete wall between this location and the President's head. In any case, the spot was wide open to the public to see, and in fact at least one witness was less than 20 feet away.

Forensic analysis reveals that an instant before the President's head exploded *forward and to the right* his head was driven three inches violently down and forward, clearly by Oswald's bullet from behind and above. The explosion of debris then twisted his head back and to the left. This was mistaken for proof of another sniper. However, a rifle on his right side would have left an exit hole on his left side of his head, quite possibly moving on to strike Jackie. No such thing happened.

Some claim that Oswald "mysteriously" had two wallets, one found on him at the theater, one at the site where he murdered Officer Tippet. No wallet was found at the Tippet scene; the DPD was simply photographed with *a* wallet there, no doubt checking the IDs of witnesses, that sort of thing.

There are those who claim, on no evidence at all, that Oswald worked for the CIA. No one has turned up a canceled paycheck, or any other proof. Anyone too dead to defend himself can be accused of that.

There are those who see great importance that the man who murdered Oswald was tangentially connected with the Mob... but if you look at the record, Ruby was barely squeaking by, even running two night clubs. Doesn't sound much like a Mob business!

See the links below; they are excellent for comprehending the evidence-based conclusions.

Lee Harvey Oswald was never tried. He was shot 2 days after he shot President Kennedy. As the authorities were transferring Oswald from one place to another, Jack Ruby walked out of the crowd and shot him at point blank range. There is black and white news reel of this event. Oswald died and Ruby was convicted and spent the rest of his life in jail, where he died in 1967.
