Khomeini was also opposed to Freemasons, effectively hunting them out of the country. Khomeini also opposed the Muslim Brotherhood since the latter was a Sunni Islamist organization as opposed to a Shiite Islamist organization; this led directly to the creation of Hezbollah to be a Shiite option in the Islamist Militant sphere.
