he was a decoy for the army
I have a patient 99 years old,who is a survivor of D-Day, almost drowned that day,was a POW 2x, met General Patton. BUt I do not have permission to speak for him. I told him he should do an interview because his experience is important and for history sake.
There were many important battles after D-Day.
General George S. Patton delivered his famous speech to the Third Army on June 5, 1944, in preparation for the D-Day invasion of Normandy. The speech was notable for its passionate and motivational tone, emphasizing the importance of courage and aggression in combat. It has since become iconic for its directness and the way it inspired troops before a critical moment in World War II.
One officer who did not command any D Day forces was Officer T. A. Mahoney. General McArthur and Admiral Fletcher also did not command forces on that day.
George Smith Patton, Jr. was a US Army general, best know for his command of the Seventh US Army and later the Third US Army, in the European Theater of World War Two. George died Dec. 21,1945.
No he did not. they left him out of planning even though he was a great amphibious planner.
General George Patton was acting as a decoy with a fictitious army in south east England to keep the eyes of Germany away from the real invasion site. In Jan. 1944 Patton arrived in England with 2 assignments. Deceive Germany that he was in charge of invasion force that did not exist. He did this by appearences to add validity to fake reports, radio traffic, fake military equip. The second assignment was to train the 3rd army. He did this in secret. After D-Day Patton returned to the war with the 3rd a month after D-Day. Patton arrived in July and the 3rd began operational in August
Patton
On D-Day, Gen Patton was in Norfolk, England playing the part of leader of a fictitious US Army waiting to invade France at Calais. This was an extremely important deception as it it made the Germans keep thousands of soldiers in the Calais region, northeast of the actual Beaches. Patton came to the fore on 1st August when he was given command of the US 3rd Army and raced to surround the German 7th Army behind the invasion beaches.
Patton was given command of a fake army to confuse German spies as to where the invasion was going to take place. Patton's intent was to make them think of Calais as the target. It apparently worked as the Germans strengthened troops in Calais area.
