How can I find out if my brother was awarded a Silver Star while serving in Viet Nam? There is no definitive list of silver star recipients. There are lists available if you do an internet search, but they are not complete or verified. If you want to find information on medals or awards given to a particular service member, you can request those records through the National Archives if you are the service member or a next of kin. There are some incomplete lists available on the websites; those are voluntary contributions. The Bronze Star is fairly low on the list & can be awarded for Meritorious Achievement, in addition to Valor. If the Bronze Star is awarded for Valor, it must have the "V" device attached to the cloth portion of the medal; or upon the ribbon. The MOH (Medal of Honor) is the common listing available for the public (the nation's highest medal).
