Is there a book or website somewhere that defends Britain's choices in the divisions of land for Arabs and Jews that contradicted each other i.e. Hussein and McMahon versus Balfour?

There really is no satisfactory defense for Britain's contradictory agreements. The tought process at the time was for Britain to get as many hands on deck during World War I to win the war. After that, the problems could solve themselves. Unfortunately for both the British and the Promisees, that was not the case.
