Signalman First Class Douglas A. Munro was serving on the US Coast Guard Sea Plane Tender Ballard off the coast of Guadalcanal. On September 27, 1942. Munro lead a rescue of 500 marines, only to die in the rescue. For his actions, he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously.
