A six ounce bottled Coke (there weren't any larger colas at that time) cost six cents plus two cents for the bottle deposit. They washed and sterilized the bottles and refilled them at the Coca-Cola plant.

There were no canned drinks in 1948. Canned drinks did not happen until about 1960. The price of a BOTTLE of soda was five cents with a three cent deposit on the bottle. If you brought the bottle back, you got your three cents back...and could buy a candy bar or three pieces of penny candy.
