Most likely, over a million and I'm just guessing ...

There are over a fifty million. In cities, most intersections have eight or more traffic signals per major intersection. A city as big as L. A. can have 10,000 intersections. Multiply that times eight. Each intersection can have eight or more signal heads. Each head can have 3 to 7 light bulbs.

We are talking some serious numbers. That's not counting pedestrian lights, overhead luminaires, and sign lights.

(not to mention highway overhead lights).

50 million is just a guess but its and educated conservative guess. Pressed for accuracy I would guess higher rather than lower.
