58,196 names are listed on the Vietnam wall. Most casualty figures I've seen say 45,000. I'm not positive, but I think those are KIAs and not a mixture of KIAs and wounded. There are also approximately 10,000 MIAs, who may or may not be dead. There are nearly 60,000 names on the Vietnam wall now. We have been adding over the last few years the names of the veterans who have passed on. The numbers were approx. 58,929 last I looked.
7040 Americans were killed in Vietnam between Jan 27th and June May 30th 1968, the period known as the Tet Offensive. *
In the singular fight know as the Battle for khe Sanh, American casualties between Jan 21 and April 8, 1968 were 730 American dead and another 2,642 wounded.**

The above answer left by someone who doesn't think issues of life and death and war are serious is stupid beyond absurdity.
It's not an easy question to answer. I wonder if the person that asked it could add some context in the discussion area.
I found one source, that had the number of those killed in Tet all wrong, that said there were 11 MIA during the period. That seems low considering air operations, already high, increased during the period and crew shot down and not rescued would have been captured.
Although over 7000 American soldiers were killed* during the period, there were not mass numbers captured.

By mid-February when the offensive had been raging for about two weeks, Washington was estimating that enemy casualties had risen to almost 39,000, including 33,249 killed. Allied casualties were placed at 3,470 dead, one-third of them Americans, and 12,062 wounded, almost half of them Americans. Before it was completely over estimates are 45,000+ wounded VC-NVA, with 38,000+ dead. Allied casualties 15,045 injured, 4,012 dead.
It was a definite victory for the Allies but the press coverage made it seem as if the North had staged a victory. The allies pushed all of the enemies out of the area they had occupied. Physically the north accomplished nothing and got a lot of their soldiers killed. But it had a psychological effect on the people of the US causing them to question whether the war should continue. It is important to note the allies did not "lose" the war. Rather, forces in the US finally convinced the congress to cease supporting the war. Without food and fuel the troops had no choice but retreat.
