These cells contains Murcury, cadmium and various pollutents. Even in the rechargeable cells when they are inally dumped can cause a huge damage to the environment. But there are various clean methods of generating electricity without the pollution. Generating electricity with fallig water or hydro electricity is one of the clean ways of generating electricity. This is the majour source of electricity used in Sri Lanka. The initial cost is heigher; but in long run, it needs nothing but constantly falling water. Solar cells are also a clean source of electricity. This is good for small scale electricity requirements. Costs a lot, but good in long run. Needs little maintainance and no fuel but Sun Shine.
