The Rabies vaccine was invented in 1885, prior to that, all one could do is hope that he didn't catch the virus if bitten by an animal. They would have used morphine, if available, but typically, someone would simply be tied down and nature would take it's course. There is still no realistic treatment if someone contracts the symptoms, it's already too late. That's why it's so important to get the vaccine.
The people back in the 1800s were not that experienced in animal's diseases. I highly doubt that there was a cure back then. The vaccine was developed in 1885, which was long after the Oregon Trail had happened.
Rabies were treated by people like jordon C doing stuff that bashed the rabie and owned it until it got out :)
There are quite a few things that people may have ate in the 1800s. People in the United States for example ate many fruits, vegetables, and plain meats.

Yes. If the raccoon has rabies, you might contract rabies.
it is very possible. there is no cure for rabies and you must treat it very early. rabies is very fatal and most people and animals die from it.
If someone contracts rabies then it should ideally be treated straight away. If it is administered quickly the treatment can be effective.
yes i can, i just need a time machine and some penicilin :P
You can die from Rabies.
hyperimmune specific antibodies
If you mean animals with rabies they would be shot. I doubt they ran into many animals with rabies. I have read numerous diary entries written by people who were pioneers and not one mentioned animals with rabies. They wrote about dust, disease, death, birth, flooded wagons, the mountains and snow.
over a million people get bit or are attacked wiith rabies
Until late 1800s most people used Laudanum or poppy derivatives such as opium, morphine, and codeine. Asprin-type pain relievers (from the bark of birch trees) were being developed in the 1890s
There is no cure for rabies once you start showing the symptoms. If you get rabies shots before you show symptoms but very soon after you get bit they can stop the rabies. There are 6 known cases of people surviving symtomatic rabies.
all i know is that people with rabies are scared of water
