Hernando de Soto
he travled to find the land of gold but instead found pearls and indians
Hernando de Soto was a Spanish man that was sent to Cuba to explore. He then left for what is now around the west side of Florida. He made his way throughout the southeast, spreading disease and killing thousands of Indians at a time. He moved all throughout the region and was the first European to come across the Mississippi River. He claimed the land for Spain and eventually died while still exploring near Tennessee and Mississippi in May, 1546.
Mormons traveled west in either a conestoga wagon or handcart and settled in Utah.

The Hernando de Soto Bridge is an arch bridge on Interstate 40 across the Mississippi River from West Memphis, Arkansas to Memphis, Tennessee.
In 1539 Herdinando de Soto led a expedition that began in what is now Florida. later, de Soto and his soldiers marched north and west from the region to look for riches. In 1531 they became the first Europeans to see the Mississippi River.
Archaeological evidence indicate the expedition did cross into Arkansas in June, 1541 and it made it at least as far west as present day Van Buren in northwest Arkansas.
