The USS Eversole received a change of orders Mid April 1961 to rejoin The USS Coral Sea and TG. 77.4 off Coast of Hong Kong B.C.C. The Eversole participated in a joint seato Amphibious operation "Pony Express" Task group departed for Borneo on April arriving off the coast February 26th.
The situation in Laos had become critical. The Eversole was ordered to proceed to Laos 150 miles off of Coast of Vietnam.
