the average age for a first marriage was 12-14 for a girl and 16-18 for a boy. However a male could hold off marrying for any number of reasons with no social judgement but a female who reached 23-25 unmarried was a social pariah and might never marry.

16 and 20 some of the girls were expected to get married as early as 14 years of age, and most of the time it was to older men.
