I have homeschooled my children for four years. From the beginning, the majority of our friends and family were very supportive. We had about 3 friends that thought we were making a bad choice. They had a preconceived notion that homeschool children were isolated and deprived of social skills. One of these friends told me I was going to turn our kids into a couple of little wallflowers. She was very against it. Now that we have been at it for a while, she has seen that we keep the kids active in the community and they socialize regularly with other children. They are confident and outgoing, even without sitting in a formal classroom. She has totally changed her mind about the concept and thinks that homeschooling really works for our family, even though she doesn't think it would for hers. I agree with her. Homeschooling is not for everyone, but the choice should remain open on a per family basis. I believe that as more people are becoming familar with the homeschool concept, they are becoming more accepting of it.
