A written policy on health and safety is important in the workplace because it clearly establishes the expectations of top management with regard to preserving the health and safety of employees, visitors, and customers. This discourages misunderstandings and inappropriate risk taking, and supports the worker or manager who calls attention to a health or safety issue or problem.
