Trailer Park Boys ended in 2009 after the release of the second film, Countdown to Liquor Day. Mike Clattenburg originally intended to end after Season 5, but decided to produce two more seasons of the show. The TV series ended with Season 7 in 2007 and one more TV special, Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys aired in December 2008 with the second film wrapping up the franchise.

The cast decided to work on different projects aside from Trailer Park Boys, such as their new show, The Drunk and on Drugs Happy Fun Time Hour in 2010 and starting their own internet network entitled Swearnet in 2012.

Mike Clattenburg confirmed a third Trailer Park Boys film in October 2012, despite Countdown to Liquor Day serving as the final installment of the series. All cast members are set to appear and the film will be titled Don't Legalize It, or as it is called often now, TPB3. Filming began in March 2013 and ended in late April. TPB3 will be released sometime in 2013 or early 2014.
